Writing, Ruta Sepetys, and Perhaps a Vlog

I've been kinda lazy when it comes to blogging and I apologize. But I have an excuse.

I'm writing another book. After feeling like I could never write another novel again because nothing felt right, and after pulling my hair out because research is harder than you think, I'm writing again.

And I'm reading a lot ... more like devouring Ruta Sepetys WWII novels. Thank you, Jenna, for introducing me to these books because, in the one week I've become acquainted with Ruta Sepetys work, she has really inspired me. I have to restrain myself from reading all her books at once because then I have to wait until she writes another one. Anyone else have this problem? (Also, Between Shades of Grey is being turned into a movie. AWWW YEAH!)

I've been thinking of making a vlog about Resist. But I need your help. If you have any questions for me regarding my new book, please comment below or send me an email! (authoremilyannputzke(AT)gmail(DOT)com)

What good books have you read lately?

  1. You're writing another book?! Go you! I'm already looking forward to reading it. :)

I'm glad you found Ruta Sepetys novels. I've only read 'Between Shades of Gray' so far, but I enjoyed it so much her other two immediately went on my 'to-read' list.

    1. I absolutely adore Ruta Sepetys. I just read Between Shades of Gray and Out of the Easy in March, and I am itching to read Salt to the Sea. This is the first I've heard of Between Shades of Gray being turned into a movie and I am flipping out here! So exciting!

I'm so happy to hear more news about your new project! You can do it, Emily! :) - Emily @ forthebookish.com

    2. Jessica - Thank you!! Writing a book is an adventure, that's for sure! I did the same thing with Ruta Sepetys books ... read one, then put other two on hold at the library! I'm halfway through Salt to the Sea and eager to read Out of the Easy. =)

Emily - She is such a talented author, isn't she? I love how she writes about little known historical topics. And yeah, I'm SO excited for the movie! Thanks for commenting!

  2. Ok, so here are my questions...
Who is your favorite in the WR group to study about? Was it hard to write the book without wanting to jump on the next flight to Germany? Can you give us a list of your sources for "Resist"? ....and what part of the story did you enjoy writhing about the most?

I'm going to have to read "Between Shades of Gray"! I've heard too many good things about it!

  3. How do you deal with (what I like to call) historical fiction plot bunnies? I have - at least for the time being - given up on writing historical fiction because history is all so interconnected and I feel that, in order to write well about one thing, I need to also be researching about 50 other things that somehow tie into that one thing. And that gets overwhelming, to say the least. Obviously, there has to be some balance there, and I'm assuming that you've found it.

  4. Ruta Sepetys is an amazing author! I am so excited that they are making a movie out of Between Shades of Grey!!! It totally made half of my day. The thing that made the other half of my day is the fact that you're writing another book. (-:

  5. I can't wait to see your vlog! They are so much fun. I think I will do one for my one year blog anniversary, which is just a couple of weeks away.

Let's see, my question(s) are how do you find good research books/websites, and how do you keep track of the information you find? How much time each day do you spend writing, and how do you work that into your daily routine?

I can't wait to see the vlog! And this new book has me excited, too! :)
