Interview with Author Rachelle Rea

I have a special treat for you all today ... an interview with Rachelle Rea, the author of the Steadfast Love Series! But before we get to the interview, here's a bit about the author:

Rachelle Rea plots her novels while driving around the little town she's lived in all her
life in her dream car, a pick-up truck. An Oreo addict, she is also a homeschool graduate and retired gymnast. She wrote the Sound of Diamonds the summer after her sophomore year of college.

How long have you been a writer?

I remember writing my first short story in middle school about a decade ago. I wrote my first novel after my first semester of college. That story was terrible and will never see the light of day. :) But The Sound of Diamonds is my first Inspirational Romance, and I think I've settled into my favorite genre.

What’s your writing routine like?

Routine? What routine, LOL? I sometimes write in the mornings and I definitely feel most productive then. But sometimes I can't stand to sleep before I see how a scene ends, so I stay up late. And then there's my lunch break, too. So less routine and more grabbing chunks of time. :)

What books and authors have inspired your writing?

Oh I love this question! MaryLu Tyndall, Laura Frantz, Joanne Bischof, Laura Anderson Kurk, Elizabeth Camden, Melanie Dickerson, Dawn Crandall, and Janette Oke. Check them out--you won't be disappointed!

How long did it take you to write and edit The Sound of Diamonds?

Let's see, I wrote the first draft in a summer. I worked on editing it up until the time I first submitted it to WhiteFire, which was about a year later. And I just finished proofreading the galleys for the last time last week! So that's three years total! The process has paid off.

Did you plot out your story or just write and see what happened?

With Diamonds, I was a very loose plotter. I had a three-act outline that consisted of maybe six half-sentences. Mostly I just put my characters in the same room where they would have to talk to each other and wrote down what they said. It was entertaining. :)

What's your favorite part of being a published author?

May I pick two things, please? :) I'm excited about holding my book in my hands, and about encouraging others toward their own dreams. If I can do this, this young, anyone can.

Are you working on any other projects?

Yes! I'm hard at work on the next two books in The Steadfast Love Series. The Sound of Silver releases in October and continues Gwyneth and Dirk's story as they discover the cost of fighting for one's honor. The finale in the trilogy, The Sound of Emeralds, releases in February of next year.

Any advice for writers?

Read. Dream big. Read more. Write a lot. Study story--in conversation (yes, this is me giving you permission to people-watch, LOL), in books, in movies, in TV shows (I highly recommend Doctor Who, mkay?). Read some more. :)

About The Sound of Diamonds

Her only chance of getting home is trusting the man she hates.

With the protestant Elizabeth on the throne of England and her family in shambles, Catholic maiden Gwyneth seeks refuge in the Low Countries of Holland, hoping to soothe her aching soul. But when the Iconoclastic Fury descends and bloodshed overtakes her haven, she has no choice but to trust the rogue who arrives, promising to see her safely home to her uncle's castle. She doesn't dare to trust him...and yet doesn't dare to refuse her one chance to preserve her own life and those of the nuns she rescues from the burning convent.

Dirk Godfrey is determined to restore his honor at whatever cost. Running from a tortured past, Dirk knows he has only one chance at redemption, and it lies with the
lovely Gwyneth, who hates him for the crimes she thinks he committed. He must see her to safety, prove to the world that he is innocent, prove that her poor eyesight is not the only thing that has blinded her but what is he to do when those goals clash?

The home Gwyneth knew is not what she once thought. When a dark secret and a twisted plot for power collide in a castle masquerading as a haven, the saint and the sinner must either dare to hold to hope...or be overcome.
